BSoA Interview: Chris Betcher

Perhaps you’ve never met in the physical world but – in case you are a connected educator – you just might have heard (or seen!) Chris Betcher in action. Chris lives in Sydney Australia but he’s got quite a global reach through his many connections and, of course, through the excellent GoogleEducast HangoutsOnAir + podcast combo! I’ve been listening to the GoogleEducast folks for quite some time and they definitely do deliver the very latest edtech news and especially Google edu tricks and tips straight into your smartphone. That’s one pretty good deal for anyone interested in pedagogical ICT use!

Chris has been working in education close to thirty years but it seems he almost did his best to stay away from the teaching jobs! Arts, sales, driving a taxi in Sydney – he’s been doing all of that but in the end working with young people and seeing them learn was just too much fun so the resistance was futile :)

After several years as a tech coordinator, Chris has now moved on to work with the EdTechTeam as their Director of Professional Development for Australia & New Zealand. Sounds like an extremely exciting job and I can’t wait to hear about the challenges ahead!

My voice was almost gone already before our virtual meeting but, luckily, Chris did most of the talking! In case you prefer audio content, you are more than welcome to listen to our chat directly through the web – or download the mp3 file – using this link.

See you On Air!
